Compensation Manager

Location: Chicago, IL

Our client who is a leader within their industry is looking to expand their Compensation Team based on growth. This candidate will manage one assistant and be a part of a larger global compensation team and assist the Global VP of Total Rewards in the design and execution of executive compensation and Sales Incentive Plans.

Additionally, this manager will be involved in a variety of compensation activities to include:

  • Market pricing
  • Market banding
  • Administer incentive programs
  • Collaborate with VP to design & develop new executive compensation programs for the + executives
  • Collaborate with VP to design & develop Sales Incentive Plans. More time will be spent on this verses executive compensation
  • The incentive compensation plan work will be related to supporting the divisions and assessing effectiveness of their sales incentive plans.
  • Implement and execute compensation plans across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with business units to capture their insight to develop a holistic program
  • Develop relationships with the business partners
  • Customize PeopleSoft for compensation programs
  • Create and execute a communication and messaging strategy
  • Gather & prepare info for compensation board


  • Partner with the VP Total Rewards to develop the enterprise broad based and executive compensation strategies.
  • Design and manage the broad based compensation programs for the Corporate office.
  • Lead the administration of executive compensation programs including long term incentive, annual incentive, non-qualified deferred compensation and executive job evaluations.
  • Partner with Operating Company HR and Business leadership to develop, analyze, and implement incentive and executive compensation programs that support the business strategies.
  • Provides expert counsel to Operating Company HR and Business leadership on compensation issues related to company pay structures, pay change recommendations, new hire offers, wage and hour regulations, policy/procedure interpretation, incentive programs, etc.
  • Manages the annual merit planning process for the corporate office. Works with HRIS to ensure the Workday system is optimized to support the business processes.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources and 6-8+ years of compensation related experience including incentive compensation
  • Three or more years of consulting experience preferred
  • Experience assessing and designing effective broad based and sales incentive programs
  • Compensation┬áCertification preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of global compensation programs and practices preferred


  • Strong consulting skills with the ability to influence Senior Leaders without direct authority
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to develop solutions that meet business needs
  • Skilled in Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of Workday preferred
