Director – Transportation Operations

Location: Southern Indiana

This position will develop and execute multi-modal transportation sourcing strategies to achieve consistent and sustainable improvements in transportation quality, capacity, and cost.

Key Objectives:

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with over-arching service improvement strategies to improve “Ease of Doing Business” with COMPANY.
  • Develop and promote a collaborative approach to utilizing technology to help surpass competitive parity for delivery service, data integrity, and performance reporting.  Promoting opportunities with EDI, shipment tracking and the Oracle Transportation Management system.
  • Drive inbound and outbound synergies within COMPANY and the entire Fortune Brands Home and Security logistics network.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage Carrier Operations staff to ensure that departmental goals are achieved and in line with the greater goals of COMPANY
  • Provide a strategic and professional approach to the management of relationships between COMPANY, our customers, and our transportation providers
  • Evaluate and respond to market conditions in order to mitigate inflationary risk associated with fuel and other transportation costs
  • Ensure smooth operation of the business through continuous forecasting, planning and evaluation of carrier capacity
  • Actively manage 1st Time Tender & Consistency to ensure Right Carrier, Right Cost, Right Customer Experience
  • Oversee RFP (Request For Proposal) processes and provide expertise in multiple supply chain elements to achieve best total value in the selection of transportation services that can meet or exceed performance requirements
  • Analyze contractual commitments, customer specifications, and other data to plan and design transportation programs
  • Foster process improvement through the deployment of processes, tools, and controls to ensure that our delivery service meets or exceeds the expectations of our customers.
  • Manage the implementation of new programs and ensure financial targets are met using strong analytical and auditing practices
  • Identify, prioritize, and ensure the appropriate focus is placed on waste reduction, returns & allowances, customer concerns, and process audits
  • Proactively monitor, measure, and report carrier performance
  • Partner with other departments (Dispatch, Shipping, Quality, Customer Service, Sales, etc.) to improve overall carrier performance and customer satisfaction
  • Represent the Logistics department on various projects teams

Required Skills:

  • Degree in Business, Logistics, Engineering or related field with equivalent experience
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in Logistics
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in management and team leadership
  • Understanding of legal considerations for the management of supplier & service contracts
  • Solid knowledge of IT infrastructure and tools including WMS and TMS systems (OTM preferred)
  • Experience with private and dedicated fleets preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be highly organized
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong project management and team building skills
  • Proficient skills using standard PC tools (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Etc.)
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Up to 50% travel required
