General Manager–Manufacturing

Location: Wichita, KS

SUMMARY 

Responsible for providing strategic and tactical direction and oversight for all manufacturing operations for the facility to insure production of goods on time, within quality specifications in order to achieve gross margin goals.  Manufacturing operations includes actual production, maintenance, interaction with materials control manager, safety, environmental issues, and labor relations functions. Integral contributor to future state design and implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and implement staffing requirements for all plants to maintain planned and projected production schedules.
  1. Monitor production levels to insure on-time delivery and required labor efficiency and to establish corrective action as needed.
  1. Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and associates.
  1. Oversee and Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.
  1. Review all quality assurance reports to identify problem areas and corrective actions.
  1. Oversee monthly inventory levels of raw materials and work in process to make sure production schedules are met while meeting the established goals for inventory turns.
  1. Participate in the development of production control systems to provide for effective inventory control and to increase productivity.
  1. Participate and offer direction for the labor standards program to establish and maintain accurate methods and processes.
  1. Participate in the resolution of vendor problems relating to quality, delivery, and cost issues.
  1. Develop effective cost reduction goals and action plans for implementing cost reduction programs.
  1. Assure proper preventative maintenance programs are in place to maintain all plant equipment and facilities.
  1. Insure 100% compliance of all regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc) and safety requirements.
  1. Evaluate the job descriptions, labor grades, general policies and procedures to insure consistency and fit with company philosophy.
  1. Coordinate development of new product introduction with other managers to insure adherence to specifications, delivery dates, and cost targets.
  1. Attend safety meeting and review minutes and inspection results to insure follow through of mandated regulations and to provide a safe workplace for all.
  1. Participate in management committee meetings as needed.
  1. Responsible for establishing capital expenditure requirements and their subsequent justifications.
  1. Develop annual operating budget for all plant operations. Monitor and assure satisfactory budget performance.
  1. Coordinate plans of action with other plant managers as needed.
  1. Active role in training and cross training of all employees and supervisors.
  1. Develop lean initiatives, 5S, TPM and Six Sigma

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Directly manages all key positions in the plant facility.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include recruitment and retention; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant manufacturing experience in a plant environment; including 5+ years plant management experience.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computer applications.
  • Background in quality assurance and general operations with past supervisory experience.
  • Must have working experience in Strategic Planning, Materials Management, Process Improvement and Program Implementation.

COMMUNICATION/LANGUAGE SKILLS  

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization. Position often coaches associates and issues warnings regarding performance, progressive discipline, and termination, with the assistance of Human Resources.
