Linux/Unix Administrator
This person will be involved with a number of tasks to include: Engaging the developers and develop relationships with the development teams and create a situation where the development teams engage and leverage this person as a technical resource as they develop their solutions that will run on the LINUX platform; engage with the R&D team to research & evaluate new solutions and services that can enhance the performance of the linux env. This may include evaluating new hardware, evaluating the Real-Time Redhat platform to see if that would be a good solution to implement, etc. This person will also be asked to challenge the status quo and challenges other team members as well as other technical teams across the organization.
The environment consists of the following
• Linux Redhat v5.3
• Lots of open source tools such as Apache Tomcat, LDAP, MYSQL, Nagios for monitoring, BConfig, etc.
• 350 servers w/ 80+ being virtual based. There are a dozen + projects around the virtual area
• 50 Sun Servers running Linux but mostly HP hardware running Linux
• These are development, QA & production (Host for Trading Apps)
• These are high frequency, client-server, multi-tiered w/ lots of market data that’s support trading decisions.
• Lots of co-location to include NY, Frankfurt, London, etc.
• 30/70 split w/ 30% support but 70% project based
• EMC Clarion SAN based
