Global Project Engineer – HVAC
Job Summary
As a member of Company’s Critical Systems Engineering and Energy Engineering Groups, the selected candidate will provide Mechanical Engineering and Good Manufacturing Practice expertise, on a global basis, in support of the company’s manufacturing facility projects as well as assuming a leadership role in support of the company-wide plant energy balance program.
Job Responsibilities:
- Build upon previous clean manufacturing design and/or operational experience as well as engineering know- how to develop and maintain knowledge of the mechanical systems and GMP requirements at various Company plants based on a global vision of the company.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and maintain a working knowledge of governmental standards worldwide.
- Apply this knowledge to the resolution of complex problems and to the development of unique, appropriate and innovative design solutions, which assist each of our facilities in meeting their business plans.
- Become the company’s recognized expert / trouble-shooter of difficult mechanical system related technical problems.
- Support the departmental project engineering efforts by participation within various design teams.
- Provide problem analysis, project design development and implementation including financial and engineering analysis of the need for repair, replacement or capacity expansion.
- Convey Company design requirements and provide direction to the design engineer for various Company capital projects on an as needed basis.
- Demonstrate cost effective (capital and operational) design awareness and capabilities.
- Review engineering design drawings.
- Monitor construction.
- Perform the mechanical utility system portion of energy balances at various Company manufacturing plants as a member of selected energy teams.
- Maintain an awareness of current and emerging technology available to save energy and comply with all requirements in a repeatable and cost effective manner
- Apply energy saving concepts and techniques to all new facility design projects.
Specific Responsibilities: will involve:
Job Requirements:
- HVAC systems engineering (air handling units, distribution ductwork, building system controls)
- Chilled water system design (chiller selection, pumping/piping system configuration)
- • Cooling tower systems (building utilities and process needs)
• Steam systems (boilers, deaerators, accumulators, piping system design)
• Hot water systems (boilers, piping system configuration)
• Process compressed air systems (compressors, dryers, storage, filtration, distribution piping system design)
• Nitrogen systems
• Plant energy balances including development of detailed reports based on observations and findings.
• Identification and/or evaluation of potential mechanical system energy saving recommendations, with a high return on investment, for facility implementation.
• Participation in and contribution to the continuing development and improvement of the company energy program
• Crisis support / trouble-shooting.
• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Ten + years on-the-job experience in the design, analysis and installation of plant mechanical / utility systems is required.
• A working knowledge of current and anticipated pharmaceutical GMP requirements on a worldwide basis as well as an awareness of the type of issues facing clean manufacturing room designs is necessary.
• Strong computer skills required. Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point is a must. Basic knowledge of other software such as AutoCAD and/or Visio is a plus
• Experience in the operation of plant mechanical systems is considered a plus.
• Must be a highly motivated self-starter and be prepared to work in a team environment.
• Must be an innovative thinker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Some travel, ± 20% on a global basis, will be necessary.
