Vice President of Information Technology

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, the Vice President of Information technology provides vision and leadership for the Information Technology organization.  This includes strategy and planning, application development and support, infrastructure management and operations, and staff development.  This individual will be located at our HQ and will be responsible for all aspects of the Company’s IT, IT systems, architecture, infrastructure as well as the on-shore and off-shore outsourced vendor operations.

The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrable history of building teams, managing people, and leading IT projects and processes, with a hands-on, proactive style, delivering support and solutions throughout the company.

The ideal candidate will be appreciate the nuances in the industry leading position  hopes to continue to command as it grows and combines three capabilities as a wireless provider, an aviation company, and a service provider and be able to envision identifying and creating solutions, value contributions and superior service levels as the company seeks to excel across all three.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with and give expert guidance to the executive team in determining the strategic use of information technology. 
  • Direct the day-to-day management of the IT Department. Develop specific project plans and monitor progress on plan rollouts.
  • Evaluate systems and manage costs.
  • Create an Information technology vision for the company and develop plans for the implementation of new technology projects.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing, and in-house development. Direct any outside support services.
  • Review hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
  • Supervise recruitment, development, retention and organization of all IT staff in accordance with corporate budgetary objectives and personnel policies.
  • Help sustain and build an exceptional company and technology team; responsible for the continued development of the organization.
  • Deliver IT solutions with an emphasis on speed, flexibility and efficiency that align with the business strategies and support the needs of internal customers through flawless execution.

 

  • Lead the development of the overall IT strategy, vision, and goals for the technology organization and ensure the goals are aligned to the business goals.
  • Responsible for establishing long-term vision and migration path for IT solutions and services and drive economies of scale and reduce cost.
  • Determine which external suppliers/vendors will provide the most appropriate and cost effective services to meet business needs.
  • Sets long-term and near-term continuous service improvement and efficiency goals for the IT organization.
  • Provide mentoring as a cornerstone of career development for all key direct reports, facilitating the talent management processes that result in building a talented leadership team within the IT organization.
  • Serve as the chief problem solver for the IT team, creating processes, tools and tracking mechanisms for challenges as they are encountered across the organization.

 

Skills and experience required:

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in increasingly responsible IT leadership positions.
  • Experience with system software applications, Infrastructure, WAN
  • Experience with business acquisitions and subsequent IT integration.
  • Experience with dispersed operating locations with centralized IT systems.
  • Must have a track record of managing multiple priorities simultaneously, and meeting reporting deadlines.
  • Cellular, ISP, e-commerce and/or Communications Industry experience is a plus
  • Engineering background is a plus
